Pendant is fossilized ammonite and is about 1.75" high. You need to _click_ on the image to see it properly. They went extinct in the cretaceous, about the same time as the dinosaurs. Sometimes the colors are amazing. These are even more vivid in life.

This is what they looked like in the cretaceous.

I've almost finished carving the kangaroo standing on the Ethiopian opal and also a very vivid nephrite jade with a tropical flower.

It's being a particularly good time to carve.

I have a lot to work on right now.

These are a group of fresh water pearls, I'm designing for lately. The double pearls are particularly lovely to work with. One of the the singles is pairing with the with the obsidian I wrote about last time.

They have a subtlety of color that isn't obvious in the photo - although it is other wise a good image.

I'm working on the kangaroo with the opal and the bronze dragon is finally cast and it will be ready fairly soon.  The ammonite is set and I'll have a photo (I hope) next time.

Everything that needed to go out for Xmas was mailed by the 10th and I'm holding the other work I've finished til after the first. I avoid the seasonal mails as much as possible.

I'm starting to plan the new work for Boskone in mid February.  We've been having an surprisingly cold winter for San Francisco. I know, if you're in the Midwest or the East Coast you can sneer at me. I grew up in the northeast and I remember.

And I have a red/orange opal ring that I need to work on as well.

But I am taking holiday time off with my daughters and looking forward to it.

Have good holidays.

I'm busy finishing work and using pearls in a variety of designs. i have some lovely small biwa pearls from Japan that are getting hard to find. I'm using them sparingly but really enjoying working with them. I've woven them into a bronze spider web I do, in a way that is making me very happy.

All the major pendants are done and I'm working on the simpler and often more delicate designs.

And I'm doing the final work on some commissions that I'm bringing to Los Angles. It's all coming up very soon.

The pendant design below is one of the most gorgeous ammonites I've ever worked with.

Pendant is about 2.5" wide and the design is in sterling silver. From the collection of Tracy Schmidt
