I'm leaving tomorrow. It's been too long and I'm really looking forward to Baycon.  These are two of the one-of-a- kind pendants that I'm bringing. Please click on images for best photo.

I've made original pendants with these stones for Balticon. (ck the preview for best photo)

The purple chalcedony with amethyst and the pearl and the carved obsidian blade with the pearl handle are cast and the malachite will be soon or I may just bring the stone.

I have a group of castings ready for tomorrow and lots of polishing to do in the next 3 weeks.

The pendant with the gorgeous opal discs and long lovely pearl is done and about to go out. I got a good photo of it and will put it up as soon as the woman who commissioned the pendant receives it.

This is a photo of the opal discs and pearl just to remind you of what is to come.

And this is my latest Pandemic Shadows image. I loved the contrast between the strong tree shadow and the delicate purple flowers. I feel like it tells a beautiful complicated story that the viewer chooses.

I was surprised to realize that the jasper and the very delicate pearl are being designed at the same time.

The jasper is about 2.5" and the pearl perhaps .75". I'm going to design both of them in bronze,

..

They are beautiful is such different ways. The jasper is for a commission. The pearl is (I think) the first of a small group of one-of-a-kind pearl and bronze small pendants.

It's very unusual for me to be thinking about two such dissimilar pieces with the same design sense.  They will look related but not alike in design. I'll be really interested to see how this develops.

When eventually the pandemic is over I think I'll be able to look back and have a sense of how it affected my design sense. Aside from the obvious influence of my Pandemic Shadow photos.

I'm starting to make a new group of rings. Different stones demand very different settings. They will all be in silver but sometimes the silver will be very highly polished, sometimes subtle and sometimes dark.

I haven't made any decision about these three stones. They are beautiful in very different ways and they will take a fair amount of design thinking.

This is Medicine Bow plume and is unusual in it's subtle patterning. I would be interesting to reflect that in the setting design.

This is a lovely freshwater pearl with exquisite colors in the pearl that will change in different lights. Possible dark silver to set it off but maybe not.

This is druze and zoasite. The crystals are even more brilliant in life. I might add a small red stone to the setting to emphasize the red zoasite.

These are all just thoughts. What really happens, especially with rings, is that the design seriously starts to develop when I work on the wax. Often it is the design I had in mind when I started, and often I get marvelous surprises.

This is one of the pendants I made for World Fantasy. I didn't make it back to my studio. The obsidian blade is one of the stunning knapped pieces that I got on my trip to Oregon. The pendant in sterling is about 2.5" long. The pearl is untreated and gorgeous. The colors are beautiful but a bit exaggerated in the photo. It's the effect of lighting it to show the knapping.

I wrote about this very different knapped design with photo before I left.

I'm starting to work on some new designs in bronze that are influenced by the "Patterns from the Sky" photographs that I posted about last time.

There is a quality to the patined bronze I've been working with that is inspiring.
