I've put up photos of the jade and these are the photos of the final pendant. I'll write more about it later. I'm still in recovery from Discon III right now but I wanted to put these up.

This is another case where I need two photos for both the work and the stones. The natural pearls are hers.  I'll write more about the design next time.

I've been doing some final work on a group of waxes. That means going over them them one final last time with magnifiers and great attention to detail.

So I don't have much that's new and interesting to say. But the group is finished and that is excellent. It's not my favorite part, but a much needed part nevertheless.

A friend had asked for more photos of stones, so I worked on that for a while this afternoon. The were remarkably uncooperative.

But I did get a good photo of this malachite. (White is light reflection)

..

And here are the pearls:

..

I'm planning to make some bronze settings for them.

The jewelry is almost all done. I just have to solder a few posts on earrings. I just set a brilliant rainbow moonstone in a ring.

The Boston weather looks OK so far and I'm really looking forward to being at Boskone.

Photos are of a pearl necklace I just finished. The main pearl is even more beautiful then the photo. I've been saving it for a long time for the right design.

And this is the close up.

I'm back from some very good down time and I'm mostly finished with the catch up work. Although I have a couple of ring sizings from considerate folks at World Fantasy to finish.

I'm looking forward to lots of time working in wax. Completing some very detailed commissions that needed a lot of time and precision and working  with more commissions and some new stone designs.

It's raining heavily here in San Francisco and except for a PO run with some photos for an exhibition that need to go out tomorrow, I am staying in!

California needs rain and I'm happy we're having it, but personally not so much.

Photos below are photos of a new stone and some new pearls.

Pearls are about 1.25". The color has a movement that doesn't photo well. It moves against a silvery grey background. And they are gorgeous - some of the loveliest pearls I've seen in a while. Not at all sure what I want to do with them. There are too many possibilities

Stone is about 2' high. It's called Native Paint and is a jasper from a mine that is not longer available to people. It's new to me and I love the patterns.

Looking forward to tomorrow.

I've made three necklaces for Worldcon  from lava beads that I got in Iceland.  This one is made with flamboyant pearls and antique Chinese beads from the 19th century that are made to look like bone or ivory.  Pearls are far more lustrous and vivid then the photo.  As I said earlier, I'm really liking working with the  lava.  I'm bringing 2 snapshot photos with me to show some of the places that I gathered the lava.

This is a necklace that took a very long time to finish.  I've written about it before.  It was made with the two antique Thai earrings that Tracy Schmidt brought back from a trip to Thailand. The earrings themselves are stunning.  Creating a necklace that would be both a very strong design in it's own right, and still focus on the earrings was a good challenge. I am _very_ happy with the completed piece.

All the pieces are carved with a peacock feather design that is an interpretation of the design on the earrings. Many of the links are set with small diamonds.  The earrings are held in bands that are riveted and set with small diamonds.  This enables the earrings to be removed without changing anything about them and was a design challenge all by itself.

The level of detail is not very photographable but I think this image gives a sense of it.

This is definitely my last post before I leave for Worldcon.   I'm looking forward to seeing everyone.

As I go over this I keep fining more typos.  I still have a lot to do and my brain is tired.  Please excuse the one's I've missed.

Photo problem seems solved. I'm now on Dreamwidth as "laurieopal". Even though I can't post images directly on LJ. I can cross post them.

So first image is of a pearl flower and silver pendant that I made recently. Actual height is about 2.5 inches.

I've just finished the octopus/seaweed large bronze pendant with the garnet crystal. it will be cast this week. The textural difference between the way the work looks in bronze or silver is interesting when I'm carving waxes. I need to clearly visualized the metal that I'm making the design in.

The opal, gold and diamond pendants are almost finished in wax. just a couple ofvery tiny touches left. One is a very subtle tiny size modification that I still want to think about a little.

Mood: Photographically satisfied
