Griffin with Opal

laurieopalI've been working on a griffin sculpture for a long timer and today it is basically finished! I just completed the setting for the opal it's holding in it's claws. It's a small sculpture so some of the work has been very delicate, especially doing the claws.
It will be in bronze holding a vivid Ethiopian opal. The base which was cut for it is a rainbow obsidian. My lapidary did a beautiful job on it and it's a work of art in itself.
Much of the original work for Worldcon is now cast and I'll be spending a lot of time polishing for the next few weeks.
I just carved a very lacy pendant design in wax that is going to be made in gold with some gorgeous opal beads woven through it.
I'll photograph some of the stones for the rings designs I've made in silver and put them up later this week.
My cat George has been feeling neglected since I'm working a lot. He knows better then to try to go on my wax table. He sits on a nearby cushion and watches me work and vibes that what I really should do is pet him.
